Teaching children about nature
May 26th, 2008Though most school curriculums include enviromental science and students are taught the various aspects of nature, it just remains a subject and many children will get bored. If they are more involved and hands on, children will be able to understand nature better.
To ensure that children really appreciate nature, parents and teachers can take the following steps:
1.Take the children to a park in the vicinity and teach them about the plants and trees growing there. Many parks have educational activities organised for students.
2. Organise a camping trip to a nature reserve nearby and tell how life in the wild works. Some nature reserves have special days for children, where they can learn about conservation.
3. Go on nature walks in the countryside. Children can collect leaves and fruits falling from trees. They are told about the various animals they see, and can draw pictures of these animals when they return home.
4. Watch environmental, wildlife and nature related news on television.
5. Take the children to a zoo , which they can see different animal species.
